As my senior year comes to a close I was reflecting on how I have grown and changed as a person. And thinking about how in my 18 years of life I have listened to lots of music. I am proud to say I have a broad music taste and it really hasn’t changed, but it has expanded a lot.
We all know how difficult school can be and how hard life is and when neither of the two are going well it feels like hell. And one of the most used coping mechanisms is music. So here are some albums that I would not have survived high school without.
Sin Miedo (del Amor y Otros Demonios) ∞ by Kali Uchis
TelepatÍa went crazy viral, but there are a couple of hidden gems on this album. It’s an album mixed with various different feelings. I listened to this a lot during my sophomore year. This album has many different pieces to it from Latin soul, RNB, and pop. It’s an album you have to listen to fully through to get the true out-of-body experience of hearing Kali’s voice. This is an album you can listen to regardless of what your feelings are. It holds such a special place in my heart, I’ll never forget about her.
My favorite songs, in no specific order
Fue mejor, vaya con dios, ¡aquí yo mando! and //aguardiente y limón %ᵕ‿‿ᵕ%
Traumazine- Megan Thee Stallion
I feel like if you have not listened to this album by Megan, you probably see her as just an extremely outspoken person. While she is, this album will make you see her in a different light. This entire album makes you want to put yourself first. Megan created the word Traumazine and defines it as, “The chemical release in the brain when it is forced to deal with painful emotions caused by traumatic events and experiences,” she explained in a post. I think I could do an entire analysis on this album because it has so many layers. If you need an album to make you feel good about yourself and prove to yourself you matter, this is the album. I listened to this album a lot during the second half of my senior year. It’s an album that makes you feel good about yourself and recognize your worth.
My favorite songs, in no specific order
NDA, Ungrateful ft Keyglock, Budget ft LATTO, Gift & a Curse, and Flip Flop.
Norman F**king Rockwell by Lana Del Ray
This album is one insane masterpiece. This album is one of my favorite albums ever. It is an album that you have to listen to when you need to sulk in your own sadness. NFR is a vocal, strong, melancholic album. It is one that got me through some dark times. If you’re going through a rough patch or just overall need a good intense cry, this album will do it for you. I listened to this the most during the winter of junior year, and I don’t think I would have survived some days without this album.
My favorite songs, in order
Happiness is a Butterfly, F**k it I love you, Cinnamon Girl, and Love song.
Savage Mode ll – 21 Savage & Metro Boomin
If you know me, you know 21 Savage is my breakfast, lunch and dinner. This album has been in my top three most-listened to albums for the last two years, so I feel obligated to put it here. It’s a dark trap album, rap heavy. This is a great album to listen to while driving in the car with your friends or when you’re getting cute before you go somewhere. I love all of 21’s albums but this one will take the crown.

RIP Luv, Many Men, Snitches & Rats, Slidin & Runnin
I could put at least ten more albums on this list. To me all these albums are great and enjoyable listens and I would not have been able to do high school without any of them!
