Colby Black is currently a sophomore at MHS and is involved in GSA alongside their contribution to The MHS Auroran!
Newspaper can have heavy workloads and on top of other classes it could be stressful, so why did he even join in the first place?
“Because I have an interest in writing and find it an escape from reality and often it’s easier to write than to be present in activities. Plus, my Freshman year English teacher recommended me as she thought I would benefit from it,” Colby said.
By joining the school newspaper, he believes he will experience many benefits, including staying on track with his goals.
Colby mentioned this by saying, “I hope to get more writing experience and make some new friends. The group of people seems fun and I would hang out with the type of people as I tend to be drawn to more hyper and outgoing people.”
Colby said, “Some academic goals I have this year are that I want to get my 3.0 GPA back with having more A’s and completing more work as I slacked a lot last year. “
There are a million words to describe Colby, but he only chose 3.
Colby describes himself as loyal, kind, and an animal lover. If anyone were to meet Colby, they definitely would agree.
“For Loyal, I believe I can be overly loyal to friends, family, lovers, jobs, and so on. That’s why I chose that word. For Kind, I believe I try my hardest to be kind and respectful, I like to give people a bit of happiness out of my kindness and try to be as joyful as possible so people can feed off the positive energy, a smile can go a long way for someone having a bad day. As an animal lover, I find myself drawn to animals, cats, dogs, sharks, turtles, and pretty much anything. I enjoy being around animals and they make me happy,” Colby explained.
“I have 2 pets as of now. I live with my Dog, a white husky named Lucy who is 3-4 years old, who is my grandma’s dog. And, a cat, an orange tabby named Miss Kitty who is 13 years old. I have also had a dog that recently passed away, a husky lab mix named Harley, he was also 13. I also want another cat, a black cat hopefully, and most likely would name it Void or Astrid.”
As an animal lover, Colby feels like he can resonate with a cat the most.
He explained his pick of this animal by saying, “I am like a cat because I can sleep anywhere if it’s quiet enough, I don’t like to be touched normally, and I’m overall independent. Plus, I love cats. It’s a plus to have the personality of a cat when you’re also a cat person”
Colby is an animal-loving, cheerful, and loving person! His creativity is over the moon! We are excited to have him in the newspaper and see all of the stories he writes this year.
