During the Covid pandemic, the 26-year-old artist, Clario had a rise in the media and was one of the many other artists who brought the indie genre back to its feet. Some of her more recognized songs around
that time was ‘Bubble Gum’, ‘Sophia’, and ‘Bags’.
Clairo released 1 more album in 2021, “Sling” and ended up being featured in a few other songs with different artists. With that being said, for 3 years Cairo fans have had a content drought, and the media started buzzing when word of a new album “Charm” was released. The album itself is about finding yourself in a storm, being lost because of love, and cleaning up the mess someone left behind in your life. It is truly a rollercoaster of emotions and we’re all here for it.
Track- 10: “Glory of the Snow”
Clairo recalls the memories that bound her to the past making it so that she couldn’t move on, and to achieve that she has to dust the past aside to see brighter days. In which,‘Glory of the Snow’ is a flower originating from the Mediterranean region. A flower that wilts throughout the winter only to be brought back to life by the Spring. This song talks about darker times, only to get back on your feet later on.
“I bust the windows, the shutters, the channels.
Where you’d sit, paper and pen.
Sweeping under the rugs.
The one I was not going to dance on again.”
Track- 8: “Add Up My Love”
“Add Up My Love” Is an upbeat song about Clairo’s thoughts after the breakup, how she deals with it in the present, and how she wants to deal with it later. She also questions how much love she gave, which wasn’t enough for that person.
“Add up my love,
Honey, was it enough?
Is it ever enough?”
She also goes on to wonder about how her ex is handling the situation. One interesting detail is that when the song fades out as she’s still singing and the beats are still going, it may resemble that those strong feelings will never go away.
“Do they still think about her?
What reminds them of her?
How are they doing?”
Track- 11: “Pier 4”
‘Pier 4’ is the perfect closing song to the album. Through all of the songs having their complications and breakthroughs, this song is all of the best parts combined. This song focuses on the feeling of straying away from and no longer being close to someone, although being psychically close, being emotionally away is an entirely different feeling. Along with that, this song also primarily focuses on the struggles of being able to find a genuine relationship in today’s “relationship culture.” And I think this song captures that theme perfectly.
“What’s the cost of it?
When close is not close enough.
Where’s your line? When do you draw?
When close is not close enough.”
Track- 6: “Terrapin”
Terrapin is an instrumental masterpiece with beautiful percussion, piano, and more.
With its calm and mellow beats, this song focuses on the bliss of nothing. And being content with the minimum or the smaller things within our lives. This song perfects the vision of pure happiness even in life’s dullest moments. It resonates with people who accept that nothing huge has to be going on in their lives to appreciate it.
“It’s a simple thing, we are all afraid and shy away
Now I find
I guess I don’t shy
I guess I don’t shy”
This album shows the bumpy roads of love & life, but eventually coming over it in the end and finding peace in such solitude. All Clairo fans at the moment are just super happy to have their favorite artist back into the works of masterpieces.
