Complex Role Monologue: Life as a fast food worker

It’s impossible to be an employee at Dairy Queen. Walk in the door, clock in, make ice cream, make food, take people’s orders. Be patient with the customers while still helping make the food and the ice cream. Be prepared for a customer to come while in the middle of cleaning. Scheduled until 10, close at 10, but in reality get home at 11 due to cleanup.

Never make a mistake, never argue, never tell a customer they’re wrong, never get upset. Always say sorry, always smile, always give the customer what they want, always be happy, always say have a great day even when you’re having a bad day.

Customers: Yell, throw your food, cuss as you walk out the door. I’m just a 16-year-old teenage girl trying to make money. I’m tired, you’re tired, we’re tired. It’s impossible to make everyone happy. It’s impossible for you to make your parents, your business owner, your customers all happy in one day. Let everyone arrive happy so it can be possible to be a Dairy Queen employee.
