Trends come in all shapes, sizes, fonts, and genres. Whether it be fashion, social media, or even a global trend that will stick around for a while.
A trend is what’s hip or popular at a certain point in time. While a trend usually refers to a certain style in fashion or entertainment, there could be a trend toward warmer temperatures (if people follow global warming trends). – According to vocabulary.com
But what stand-out trends have made a striking appearance in 2024, and which ones are likely to continue their raging journey throughout 2025?
- GRWM (Get ready with me)
Get Ready with Me videos have made their way into the pop culture realm through the platforms of TikTok and Instagram. These videos include someone getting ready, either for their day, an event, or to stay at home and rest. Usually the influencer either talks about their routine, or another urgent topic irrelevant to the steps they are taking to get ready. These videos appeal because they seem to humanize social media and help people understand that it is normal to take time to prepare for their day.
- Hopecore – Highlighting the good things in life
Hopecore has mostly appeared on the Tiktok platform, whose whole purpose and motive is to bring happiness and hope to viewers. The world had its ups and downs in 2024, but when it was low, it was low. Hopecore is a compilation of happy videos where good news and smiles are being spread. This could be a military father coming home to his children, or someone finding out they are cancer-free for good. The purpose is to lift people and the world up, even when it seems like the low is getting lower.
- AI – Artificial Intelligence
Sadly, not every trending topic is 100% positive. The rise of AI art and communication systems has had mostly negative effects, but also a glimmer of positive effects. AI has made more of an artsy appearance on social media with AI-generated art. But AI has also directly affected education. Since new AI creations allow students to enter their assignment prompt, AI can complete and rewrite it. This has put pressure on the administration to create AI blockers allowing them to get true student work. AI has positive and negative effects, but it’s not going anywhere. People fear the overtaking of robots, but with AI who knows how far from the truth that silly fear really is.
- Uggs – A Footwear staple that’s not going anywhere
UGG is a company that has been at the top of the fashion food chain for quite some time. From 2022 -2023 the UGG brand brought in 1.9 million in income for the year. UGG sells a variety of cozy sheep’s wool products, that are perfect for winter. Their products are mainstream in the winter and around Christmas, but are popular as gifts all year round. Because of their cozy sheep’s wool interior, UGG boots and slippers are more on the pricy side. UGG boots, slippers, blankets, and much more are all over the high school environment. Due to the coziness and sheer popularity, it’s safe to assume UGG’s are not going anywhere.
