Fashion Spotlight: Emma Whitmire

How would you describe your style?

“It can range from many different things, but recently I’ve been obsessed with the 70’s and 80’s fashion and their casual attire. Such as bell bottoms, Flares, vests, and grandma sweaters. I love to wear and collect grandma sweaters.”

What’s your favorite piece that you like to switch around a lot?

“Jeans. I have too many pairs of jeans, like I said, I have bell bottoms, flared, baggy, wide-legged, and many more. The pants tie in the outfit, and they finish it off perfectly.”

What’s your general color palette?

“It’s all over the place, as much as I like to keep it simple and go with neutral colors. I like loud or statement colors that pop out of my outfit. Something that says ‘Hey! I’m here!’ And I am here for extra colors.”

What’s your process of creating an outfit?

“It all depends on whether I want to wear jeans or not. If I don’t it’s a very calm outfit. But if I do want to wear jeans, then that’s when I try to coordinate my outfits more.”

What are some of your favorite places to shop for your clothing?

“Antique stores and thrift stores, I rarely shop at chain clothing stores anymore. I mainly shop at thrift stores because they’re usually cheaper than Antique stores. But sometimes if I have some money, I’ll splurge at Antique stores!”

What were your older styles like? And how did you grow out of them?

From 7th grade to freshman year, I don’t think I had much of a signature style. It was an awkward period for my style, around the sophomore year I started to develop more of an idea of what I like to wear. And then Junior to Senior year, I started to acknowledge that I have a niche for older styles from the ’70s/’80s.”

How long has your obsession with Garfield been, and how do you incorporate him into your fashion?

“All of high school, and some of 8th grade. I’m not sure why I love him so much but he’s my favorite. I have a lot of shirts and accessories so I like adding those into my outfits to add flair. I also have my favorite button-up Garfield shirt that I love wearing, it’s like my signature.”
