Talent runs through her veins, expanding every year. With several hobbies, activities, and passions, Vanessa Mendoza, MHS Junior, does it all. One in particular separates her from the rest—her very own small business; creating ramos. Ramos differ from bouquets, while bouquets are made from real roses ramos are made from ribbon. Bouquets consist of different flowers while ramos are usually one. The special part is that they are eternal.
Vanessa Mendoza is very involved here at MHS. She is a member of our student council, orchestra, mirachia, band, and jazz. Her bright and funny personality is never a miss. Vanessa has a passion for playing music, but also for her business.
“I saw that people made business out of this, I thought it was very interesting,” shared Vanessa.
It started with a gift, literally, a birthday gift. Vanessa created flowers for a friend as a gift, she shared how she saw other people on the media doing this so she gave it a shot. As you can tell, it turned out to be a success. Vanessa is now going into her second year running her small business.
So how exactly does she do it? For her, it is a calming process. Picking out the colors of the ribbon, creating the petals, and designing.
“It’s kind of relaxing when I have nothing else to do,” admitted Vanessa.
Vanessa will spend evenings creating petals and perfecting the style. Family is a big support, even helping her finish orders. She found herself even teaching family members how to make these petals for help in finishing a ramo.
“When orders are in a rush, I get them to work (her family),” she said.
Right now she is only working with ribbon but she hopes to try with real roses.
“I know I would get more orders if I use real roses.”
As a “girls girl” Vanessa understands the feminine urge of receiving flowers. A simple gesture made out of love. This is why she hopes to expand her business, reaching a wider audience. Vanessa’s ramos can be made for any occasion. She offers different counts of roses, colors, and designs.
Vanessa works hard to set herself up for the future. Being able to run her own business is a great skill to have. The money she makes goes to buy more supplies and for future school trips. She plans to continue her business as a side hustle. In the future, Vanessa plans on going to college to become a teacher.
