The Chief Editor of the MHS Auroran, Kaitlyn Ford, is a memorable person to meet. If you have had the liberty of meeting her, you know how passionate she gets. She is funny, loud, and inappropriate at times. It’s her senior year, and she wants to go out with a bang in Kaitlyn Ford style. With the help of Maya Simpson, Kaitlyn Ford has written an opinion piece on normalizing bodily functions. Embracing a writing style that replicates her rants, which the newspaper gets to enjoy regularly. After begging advisor Raunbuehler to publish the story, the story is published, encapsulating the true essence of Kaitlyn Ford.
Farting (in appropriate places):
Okay, farting should not be just anywhere; there is a time and place, but if you’re in the bathroom, let it out. It’s a bathroom for a reason; I don’t want to go out of the stall and be scared someone will hear me. And if it’s in the classroom, and you accidentally let it out (it happens to the best of us) don’t be embarrassed, people fart, MOVE ON. And I will laugh at the occasional fart, because, it can be funny. Especially when it is your friends, but I do not believe it should be something we are scared of. Also, why the heck is it a thing to be scared of farting in front of your partner? LET IT OUTTTT.
Picking your nose:
In public, it is not socially acceptable to pick your nose, and it should stay that way. However, in the comfort of your own home, sometimes it is necessary to pick your nose, and that is okay. For me, I just make sure I wash my hands afterwards. Sometimes, picking your nose is what needs to be done to relieve something within your nose. The way to get away with picking your nose in public is just doing it with a tissue over top of your finger so you are not touching the boogers. Obviously, stay sanitary, but don’t be ashamed to get UP in there.
PERIODS!!!!:
I have always been the type of person who never hides the tampon that I’m taking to the bathroom, girls should not have to be scared or embarrassed to take a tampon or pad to the bathroom, we have periods. If “boys” get grossed out, then that’s their fault! Boys think periods are gross, not men! If you can’t handle the discussion, then you’re immature. And when it comes to opening up products, we’re all girls in the bathroom. So do not be scared to open the pad or tear the tampon when you need it.
Pooping:
Why did people start saying that girls don’t poop or even say that it is disgusting that it happens. Sue me for having normal bodily functions. I’m not saying we talk about it all the time, but come on, everyone poop’s, no need to be embarassed. Also, who started that thing where people say girl’s don’t poop? If we didn’t, we would die. Sooo don’t get grossed out if we need to. Why do people think that it is weird to go to the school bathroom? No one wants to, but sometimes it’s needed. Leave the people in the stalls alone.
Sweating:
Sweating is a normal bodily function, but often many people, especially girl,s are ashamed of sweating. Whether it is just from a normal day, being anxious, being in a hot room, or doing an activity, sweat is okay. I shouldn’t be worried about your hair showing too much sweat, your face glowing a little, or there being a drop of sweat in your armpit when you lift your arm. Being a human comes with sweating a little bit, and it is not something to be concerned about others seeing, because newsflash, they also sweat.
Coughing:
I hate when its quiet or even anywhere and I feel like I have to cough but I hold it in and I end up fighting for my life. And then my face will get all red, DO NOT POINT IT OUT. It will only make it worse. I really do not want to cough when it is quiet, but I should not hold it in for that exact reason. Let me cough without making fun of me, PLEASE.
Eating:
Eating is a survival task, and eating is a necessity. You need to eat, even if you are in front of someone else. Does my mouth move weird? What does it look like from the side? Was that bite too big? Did I get something on my mouth? Am I eating too fast? Am I eating too slow? Am I loud? No, just stop, eat your food, nourish your body, and stop worrying about what people think. If they feel a certain way about your eating, then they need to calm down.
Peeing:
It is going to make noise, why is there some stigma against the noise? I know so many girls who try to pee quietly, but if I have to pee badly, I’M GOING TO. I shouldn’t be scared of the girls who are doing their makeup in front of the mirror; we all pee. It is a normal thing that people do multiple times a day. So let that stream go.
Stomach growling:
I’m in a silent room, and my stomach growls. There is nothing I can do but hold it tight and try to play it off. But I just feel ashamed. At the end of the day, there is nothing to be done about a growling stomach, it is what it is. It is hard to conquer the shame, but it is inevitable, and people are not going to die hearing your stomach growl, so no need to dwell on it.
Being prickly/hairy:
Maybe you missed a spot or maybe even just did not shave that day, your legs might be a little prickly. Someone says, “oo, you’re a little prickly, might need to shave”. Yes, bodies grow hair. Newsflash. Having hair on legs that grow hair is not a crime. You can still wear shorts. You can still participate in society with prickly legs.
Why is it treated like the most disgusting thing ever when girls have leg or armpit hair? Like, yes, we grow hair. Especially in the winter. Also, in this case, Everyone has a preference, but do not make it your whole personality to hate on girls having hair on their legs and armpits.
Any other random topic, I will have an opinion on it. I will always have a discussion, no matter how weird the topics are. So send them my way.
