Amaya Wagner is a Senior at MHS and is a member of the newspaper, MHS Auroran Today. This is her third year being a part of it, she is Chief Editor and is also a member of the Key Club.
Amaya really enjoys being a part of the Newspaper, and even President of the Key Club. Being a leader is key for her. Seeing people come out of their comfort zone when they join is also something she is fond of.
“I like being able to see people change and grow as writers, and also as people,” Amaya said.
Along with being able to see people’s growth, she likes how the team comes together and becomes closer as the years go on. Everyone eventually becomes friends, for her it’s a great feeling to be able to see these developments over time.
“You’ll see in a few weeks it’ll just keep getting better and people will start knowing the system, I like seeing that change,” Amaya said.
She also wants to take on the career of being a teacher when she is older. As she is currently taking college courses to reach this goal.
“I really just like to teach and help people and I want to be a teacher when I grow up,” Amaya said.
Something Amaya hopes to be able to learn is to play the piano, she plans on investing in one as soon as she purchases a home.
Amaya has always enjoyed writing. Her motivation comes from her self interests, and even her family.
“I think the reason I started was that my sister was in the Newspaper and Yearbook… I guess I kind of followed in her footsteps,” Amaya said.
Amaya’s family is very important to her, and her sister is like her best friend. Her mom and her are very close as well.
“I’m just like another version of her, we’re the exact same, my sister too,” Amaya said.
Amaya also spends a lot of time babysitting because her mom has a home daycare. So there’s always something to do and help her mom with. She also spends a lot of time watching movies with her friend, Jaela.
“I watch a lot of movies because Jaela’s like my best friend and she’s such a movie girl, I practically live at the movie theater,” Amaya said.
The thing that Amaya and her friends enjoy most is attending concerts together. Concerts are what she saves her money for, and going to them is really important to her.
“I think it shapes me, because I’m such a concert girly. It’s changed my whole life,” Amaya said.
A favorite of hers was a recent concert of Harry Styles, Love on Tour, for his new album Harry’s House. It was nice to see something new from him.
She also attended a festival where she saw The Wallows, who she was dying to see, Spill Tab, Faye Webster, Del Water Gap, and Yot Club. Her best experience was when Dylan Minette looked her directly in the eyes.
“It was a dream come true,” Amaya said.
Something that’s on Amaya’s bucket list is to go on a plane. Even though she hasn’t been on a plane, that didn’t stop her from traveling, going on a road trip to California. Another bucket list item is to go out of the country.
Amaya has a very uplifting spirit and is encouraging to her peers. She is reliable, and you can always count on her!
