At 7pm on Friday, April 26th the 15th annual Giles Joslyn Memorial Stringfest event will take place at Muscatine High School. Ever since Giles was in high school here at MHS, he found a deep interest in the music program and playing his violin. As Giles became more involved in the program though, he discovered many students couldn’t pay for the things they needed.
Because of this love for the program, he decided to create the Stringfest fundraising concert, where all proceeds go back to the music department to help pay for private music instruction, instrument repairs, and the purchase of new instruments. After he passed the MHS orchestra continued to honor him by naming the event after him and continuing to raise money for orchestra students every year.
At the concert there will be many entertaining performances to watch and a silent auction. All orchestra students and teachers are able to participate in the concert, often there are groups ranging from 6th grade all the way through to current instructors or graduated students. At the end of the concert, everyone joins together to play one large piece.
So, make sure to help the orchestra program by attending this year’s Giles Joslyn Memorial Stringfest. Tickets are $7 at the door of the auditorium and after the concert there will be rootbeer floats available!
