Mr. Muscatine is one of MHS’s favorite annual student-based events in the school. From dance numbers, karaoke, to speed dating; It’s something for everyone to look forward to. Along with its comedic performance, its humility goes further than that. It is a dedicated fundraiser held by the student council to raise money for the November Food Drive as well as various other Muscatine Charities during the holiday season.
This year, the Mr. Muscatine pageant will take place in the High school Auditorium on November 26th, from 8:30-10:30am. The contestants are usually a group of 5 guys who enter themselves from the graduating class of that year. This year the contestants are Nate Harfst, Kai Gomez, Matthew Spies, and Zander Ruldolph.
Out of the norm for the tradition this year, there are only four contestants. It seems that this year, just most people aren’t interested in signing up like they used to be. Mr. Muscatine can be traced back to 2013, “so long we can’t trace it back,” Kai Gomez joked. Mrs. Huot, the coordinator of Mr. Muscatine this year, and the contestants think of the event as a tradition within the school, similar to the Homecoming court.
“I think its a tradition to MHS because it’s kind of like homecoming court, people look forward to it, as traditions should be kept”- Matthew Spies (Mr. Muscatine Contestant)
Since all 4 of the guys were already friends, this drew a quick connection between the crew. The hope is to encourage next year’s seniors to participate in the event as it died down this year, “It’s also your senior year, so you might as well.” Stirring up emotions for years, “How many people get to say that they’ve been Mr. Muscatine?” said Matthew Spies. In addition, it allows you to show your personality to the crowd.
Whether you want to get out of class with your friends or watch some funny “shenanigans,” Come support your peers at the Mr. Muscatine Pageant next week, November 26th. Tickets are now available to buy!
“Its gonna be a good, it’s gonna be funny, it’s like a reality tv show”, – Nate Harfst
