“And for teaching French or Spanish, there weren’t a lot of options. There were some in Iowa City and a couple of other places around town, around eastern Iowa. But I didn’t want to go super far away from Iowa City. So Muscatine popped up and I was like, what is Muscatine? And I came down for the interview and just loved it.”
“I was ready to teach French or Spanish, but it was kind of exciting to teach French because it was my favorite in college,” she added.
One of Madam Fuchtman’s favorite aspects of teaching is the diversity among her students. Each student brings a unique perspective and background to the classroom, making every day a new and exciting experience. She enjoys learning from her students as much as she enjoys teaching them.

“My favorite part of teaching here is the kids, my students. And I just really enjoy having students that is all. Each one of them is unique in their personality, in the languages they speak, in their world views,” she said.
Fuchtman also takes every opportunity to expand her students’ learning. She takes her students on educational trips, such as visits to art museums and lessons on African history. She believes in making learning fun and engaging for her students, allowing them to explore different cultures and histories.
Teaching is more than just a job for Madam Fuchtman – it’s a passion. She can’t imagine herself doing anything else and finds fulfillment in helping her students grow and learn. If she weren’t teaching French, she would consider teaching Spanish or history, as she holds a license for both subjects.
“I just really like teaching. I think it’s hard for me to imagine what I would teach, but if I couldn’t teach, what would I do? Teaching has surprised me.”
