February is here, and it’s living up to its boring legacy. The cold is kicking in, and the stretch with a lack of anything is in full swing and seniors are slumping back into their chairs stumbling into the second semester. The only thing to look forward to is a day of roses and cheesy candy. So for seniors, especially those who could care less about the season of love, this part of the year drags and downright sucks.
Seniors are at the point where they need a few more credits until they break free from the walls of high school. With little to focus on and lack of motivation, it is hard to get work done or show up in general. But with all these negatives, these seniors forget to focus on the positives of this weird time where they are half kid half adult.
“I am accepted into college, and know what I am doing, so it feels pointless to be here. I’m only here for the sports,” Said Senior Cheyenne Moiser.
With college plans already set in stone, it’s hard to find any reason to focus on high school, because the next chapter is already outlined. But school sports and activities, especially during senior year provide just enough motivation to look forward to that last meet and senior night. Being cherished on a senior night for your beloved sport is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that makes the drag so much more worth it.
“I am excited for musical and graduation, but I have like no motivation to go to class anymore,” Said Senior Rachel Kurz
Sitting in a high school for up to seven hours when you’re itching to move out of your hometown sounds like torture. Most seniors completely agree with this sentence. But there are ways to make the second semester of senior year a little bit more enjoyable and less torturous.

One way to make the days go by painless is to maintain a routine to make sure everything gets done as you go through the motions. But make these routines fun and basic, like leaving time for what you want to do. This could be as simple as leaving an hour to rot on TikTok, but also thirty minutes to cram out necessary homework. Portioning out your time makes things go a lot faster.
Another thing to keep in mind is to get plenty of sleep, and set manageable goals you know you can achieve. Sleep is so important, especially for drained teenagers. Getting a sufficient amount of sleep reduces stress, improves mood, and prevents a lot of health issues that can be detrimental to a teenager’s health.
Goals are important because as long as they are manageable they serve as something to work toward. Especially if you grant yourself a reward after you reach your goal. like ice cream, or an extra nap during the day.
There’s no hiding that the end of the senior year sucks, but there are a few small things you can implicate to make it a little more bearable. Keeping a routine is important, but remember its okay to feel overwhelmed, as your not the only one.
I wish all seniors all the luck for their future!
