Over the years, Prom fashion trends have changed drastically. This year, sleek and smooth designs have been dominating the industry! With that being said, let’s go over some of 2025’s prom fashion trends!
Satin:
Satin has been in Prom fashion for a long time, but more recently, High School students have been going for a sleek or smooth aesthetic, achieving a “Glossy” or a “Wet Look” with their Prom outfits.

Satin dresses have less intricate designs because it’s harder to use different types of fabric with it, otherwise, it looks all over the place. If you want to add more details to your dress, some other fabrics that go with satin are lace, chiffon, tulle, and organza. All are lighter/sleek materials. However, satin is usually used to achieve a more simplistic yet very elegant and glossy look. So if that’s what you’re looking for, satin is gonna be your best friend.

Corset Tops:
Corset tops were created in the 16th century, and have remained a staple in women’s clothing ever since. It’s used to tighten the waist area by cinching it. More modernly, people have been getting creative by adding designs and embroidering them onto dresses. It’s become a trend for both homecoming and prom dresses.
These tops are beautiful with or without being put on a dress, giving you creative leniency. You could wear a two-piece for prom or corset tops with a good maxi skirt if you wanted. Again, with corset tops, a lot of people make it with satin fabric, as well as adding creative lace designs onto the corset. If you want your body to be “Tea,” prom corset tops are the way to go!
Maxi Dresses and Skirts:

Overall, Maxi dresses/skirts have been on the incline in the fashion industry. However, mid-length/mini seems to be declining in popularity. Maxi dresses being used for Prom outfits have been the rage, not only this year, but for many years before. Now, people will add slits to their skirts to make it more breathable and convenient, as well as it being a very cute add-on. Going back to the maxi style was a good choice; the style is super classy and has always been a nice and rich look for anyone and everyone.
Ruffles:

Ruffle dresses have always been in, but yet again, they have been gaining more attention due to Prom dress season. Usually, ruffled dresses are made of chiffon or tulle, a thinner material that looks better layered. This adds a great amount of volume to the dress, giving that “Disney Princess” look that everyone has dreamed of having ever since they were 7. Some students will add a cape/skirt cover, usually, again using chiffon or tulle to add a little bit of extra detail to the dress. Ruffled dresses, I imagine, are more for matte looks rather than glossy. An amazing choice for those Prom princesses!
Prom is a HUGE deal to most High School students, and it’s a rite of passage for many. Many search high and low for their dress, going at lengths to find it. These dresses were just some of the prom dresses that fall under the trending category at the moment! If you’re still having trouble finding your prom dress, you can use this as a source of inspiration for finding your perfect dress for prom!
