Carter Mohegan is a junior at Muscatine High School. He is an active member of various school clubs and activities, including Newspaper, Upward Bound, and Key Club.
While talking to him, he gave some great insight into why he joined the MHS newspaper and about all the parts of him that make him such an asset to our team this year.
“Before this I took journalism and I enjoyed it, so that led to me joining the newspaper!” The sentiment of this statement applies to everyone on the newspaper team since all members have taken at least one year of journalism before joining.
“I hope to write stories that people can laugh at and/or get inspired by. And getting to know the staff crew!” I feel that this is what some, if not most, of the staff want. I believe this makes him more relatable and approachable, especially with this perspective on what he hopes to achieve in the Newspaper this year.
“I feel like my style is different than a lot of people I talk to and how I come off.” I know many individuals who share this point of view.
During our conversation, he also mentioned something that resonated with me: “If they like me they like me, if they don’t they don’t.” Many people often experience the feeling that if someone doesn’t like them, it’s okay because there are plenty of other people in the world who will.
“Grandpa, Optimistic, Spunky.” The article title serves as an introduction to the content. Carter often affectionately refers to himself as “Grandpa” due to his unique style.
This endearing nickname adds to his approachability and reveals a side of his personality that is easy to connect with. After engaging in conversation with him, these are the words that best capture my perception of him as well.
“Artistic, Kind, Cool, Stylish.” I completely agree with these. Carter is an incredibly kind person, and I find his cool demeanor to be quite admirable. The artistic and stylish elements of his personality are integral to who he is, making him even more exceptional in his unique way.
“I would be a fish, they’re so weird looking, and they’re kinda chill, I think they’re my spirit animal.” The quote resonates with many because it captures his deep connection to nature and his love for animals.
I find it heartwarming that he affectionately refers to fish as “weird,” showing his playful nature and recognizing them as his spirit animal. This quote beautifully encapsulates his complex and genuine appreciation for the natural world.
In the end, Carter is a wonderful and kind person. When I first began talking to him I genuinely felt comfortable immediately, showing me that that may be how he makes everyone feel with his kind light-hearted nature.
While he can be hyperactive and a tad over-optimistic, that makes him an even more exciting person to get to know. It shows he is always willing to help and be around others, an amazing quality to have when a part of the newspaper crew.
