E-Sports: Glory

Although E-sports just started this year, they’ve already achieved an amazing number of achievements, from playing games in a conference room at MHS to making it to the state finals.

Let’s listen about the challenges they faced throughout the tournament!

“I think the matches went great overall with us beating Thomas Jefferson who from what I gathered seemed to be the favorite to win it all,” said Christopher Burns, a Sophomore E-Sports player.

Almost all of Muscatine High School were on the edge of their seats watching round 2 against Thomas Jefferson. At first, they were losing by quite a bit, but they made a comeback in the end, persevering through the obstacles.

“After losing the 2nd game, we felt down, but the team rallied back, we adjusted and the kids did not want to go home in game two. They stepped it up and in game 3, we took them down to advance to the state finals!” Mr. Vitali Leader of the E-Sports Club said, “The competition was tough because these teams made it through the regular season and substrate. So it was nice facing some great competition.”

After everyone watched the victory live, the school went wild! Everyone cheered and was happy for Muscatine’s victory, and hopeful of a State Championship. By this time, they were exhausted after the long day of playing games, and even though they gave it their all, they met their match and lost to Waterloo East in the finals.

“The finals were hard with the other team being good and us being exhausted but I think overall we played well knowing the circumstances and the other team were all great people who were very fun to play against,” said Christopher.

Although a bittersweet moment, they say it was a fun and exciting experience. Until next year, we all know we can make the state title.
