It is time for the dancers superbowl recap. UDA Nationals is for college dance teams to perform, dance the night away, and compete against every D1 college team. They have 3 different categories: hip-hop, pom, and jazz. Jazz is more of an open category, allowing lyrical, contemporary, musical theater, and, of course, jazz dances to be competed in it. This is a very intense competition with the whole dance world counting on you. The most popular teams are Minnesota, whose technique is on point, and the hardest dance team to get into. Ohio, with its storytelling and technical precision, and being Minnesota’s biggest competitor. Louisiana has the largest audience for hip-hop and the name that everyone calls them by, the “Tiger Girls”. The results of this season of UDA Nationals shocked many viewers.

Minnesota is throwing shade like it’s candy on the 4th of July:
Minnesota’s jazz dance has made a remarkable and innovative contribution to dance history. Minnesota’s jazz song was “Maybe This Time” by Cabaret, and this is significant because Minnesota has lost 2 years in a row, and the song by Cabaret means what Minnesota perceived it as: “Maybe this time we will win”. Their biggest critique was that they weren’t jazz enough, and their dance was the definition of dance. They were basically throwing shade at the competitions and telling them, “Is this jazz enough?” which received mixed reviews – the loyal Minnesota fans loved it, but why??? Some, but the dance didn’t have a high point and was underwhelming. The final tally, though, dismantled the opinion in favor of the dance; Minnesota did not win and instead placed 3rd.
LSU is getting robbed big time:
Louisiana placed 2nd and was .2 points off of getting first and beating Las Vegas. Louisiana’s song was a remix of Kendrick Lamar, and in one of his most popular songs, they danced to “Not like us,” which had the lyrics, “you can rig the game, but you can’t fake influence,” stating that the mark the Tiger Girls have on the dance community is stronger and better than a UDA placement. Their hip-hop dance this year and for the last few years has been entertaining and full of power. They bring it every year and put on a show for the whole audience, and not just for the judges.
LSU Tiger Girls queen of throwbacks:
- LSU did a Brittney Spears routine and channeling iconic 2000s with their costumes and routine itself.
- The Tiger Girls went viral in 2022 for their “Like a Boy” routine, and they referenced one of the popular moves when Kendrick Lamar says, “my left stroke just went viral, “ which riles the crowd up even more.
