ESPN Coverage of Taylor Swift

Is all the attention on Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce too much?

Taylor Swift continues to break records and will most likely go down as one of the best artists of our generation. From March 18th, 2023 to August 9th, 2023 she played 53 shows, each lasting about 3 hours and 15 minutes. That was just the first leg of the Eras tour in the US, she has many shows coming up.

Travis Kelce is one of the best tight ends in the NFL with the Kansas City Chiefs. With two Super Bowl wins under his belt, he is seeking out a third, but there may be something standing in his way. Or someone.

It all goes back to July 26. On his podcast, New Heights, Travis Kelce shared some not surprising news. He attended Kansas City night 2 of The Eras Tour. This isn’t surprising because many celebrities went to her shows. Although Kelce decided to share his fool-proof plan of wooing her over. He made her a custom friendship bracelet with his number on it. And not number 87, his phone number.

On September 24th, the big game happened. Taylor surprised football fans and Swifties by watching the Chiefs-Bears game alongside Kelce’s mom Donna. To news sources in America, this might go down as the craziest day ever. But real Swifties know she’s a mastermind, and you will never know her next move.

Except we did, because she was at another Chiefs game the next Sunday. So with her two appearances at NFL games, she has become the talk of the town on ESPN, cutting into daily coverage that viewers are there for. It was funny the first few times, but football connoisseurs like Ty Cozad think it’s too much.

“She’s ruining football,” said Ty “She needs to stay out of football.”

This ESPN notification was sent out on October 29th.

During the Chiefs-Jets game, NBC showed Swift 17 times. Many fans thought that was too much. But football watcher Mr. Rusch doesn’t mind it.

“It doesn’t bother me too much as long as it doesn’t interfere with the actual showing of the game,”  Rusch said, “I understand why they’re doing it. It sells and they’re trying to sell their brand.

Recently the roles reversed when Travis went to one of Taylor’s concerts in Buenos Aires, Argentina, for her international leg of The Eras Tour. During the concert, fans noticed she was looking at someone special during her song Lover.

Then the whole world practically flipped upside down for many football fans and Swifties alike. In Karma, one of her songs off of the Midnight’s album, there is a lyric that goes “Karma is the guy on the screen, coming straight home to me”. But being the lyrical genius that she is, she changed it to, “Karma is the guy on the Chiefs, coming straight home to me”.

With so much attention and so many eyes being on this relationship, many fans question how long it will last. And while a breakup album about an NFL player would be mind-boggling, their fans just want to see them happy.

In the December/January edition of WSJ magazine, Donna Kelce expresses her thoughts on the relationship, “I can tell you this,” she says inside the magazine. “He’s happier than I’ve seen him in a long time… God bless him, he shot for the stars!”

So maybe we should all take a page from Mama Kelce’s book, and just be happy for the couple and hope that Taylor’s attendance keeps going well for Travis’s stat sheet.

Good article, Emma! Relevant to the times. I somewhat agree with Ty – a little too much during a football game. However, I was intrigued enough about Taylor that I went and saw her Era’s Tour movie. 🙂
