High School Era

Take a look at some of the Taylor Swift lyrics that relate to high school students.

Dedicated fans and casual listeners both know that Taylor Swift is an amazing lyricist. Fans around the world use her songs to help them get through tough times, happy moments, heartbreak, and much more. I’m going to take a look into some of the lyrics throughout her discography that are very relatable as a teenager and will help you get through high school.

“Never Grow Up” from Speak Now

“Take pictures in your mind of your childhood room… I just realized everything I have is someday gonna be gone.”

— Taylor Swift

This song definitely hits differently as a Senior. Realizing that this is your last year of “childhood” can be very scary and intimidating. This song perfectly describes the feelings most Seniors go through. I have definitely listened to Never Grow Up multiple times while reflecting on this important year.

“This is Me Trying” from Folklore

“I was ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere. Fell behind on my classmates, and I ended up here.”

— Taylor Swift

This is definitely one of Taylor’s saddest songs, but it also encapsulates the feeling of not being good enough in many different aspects. This song can be applied to many different situations, but this lyric specifically really describes the feeling of falling behind everyone else. I think we’ve all experienced this feeling during high school and if you have, then this song will definitely help you feel understood.

                                                                                             “New Year’s Day” from Reputation

“Hold on to the memories, they will hold on to you.”

— Taylor Swift

Being a high schooler and being a teenager are some of the most important and special years of our lives. In the moment it might not feel important, but one day those will be the memories you look back on. This song talks about remembering those moments and reflecting.

“Betty” from Folklore

“I’m only 17, I don’t know anything.”

— Taylor Swift

I think a lot of students or even just teenagers feel like this in many situations. 17 is an age where it feels like you’re not a kid anymore but you also aren’t an adult.

“You’re On Your Own, Kid” from Midnights

“Cause there were pages turned with the bridges burned. Everything you lose is a step you take. So make the friendship bracelets. Take the moment and taste it. You’ve got no reason to be afraid.”

— Taylor Swift

This song is a perfect way to end this story. Overall this whole song just is the perfect description of teenage years. This lyric emphasizes that we need to take in every moment and live our lives to the fullest. You’re on Your Own, Kid is definitely my theme song for high school.
