For the first time in recent memory, the Muscatine Muskies have electrified their season with a flawless 7–0 start. This achievement has reignited school spirit and united the community in support of a team that has worked tirelessly to rewrite its history.
The Muskies’ perfect start didn’t come without challenges. The team has faced tough opponents, close games, and moments that tested their resolve, but each time they’ve risen to the occasion. With a combination of gritty defense, fast-paced offense, and undeniable teamwork, the team has shown why they’re among the most exciting squads in MAC.
Senior, Kayvion Hodges has been a cornerstone of the team’s success, providing the leadership needed to keep the team focused, having won a state championship at Assumption High School last season.
This winning streak has brought the community to life, with packed stands and chants echoing through the gym on game nights. It has brought attendance that we have not seen since the Joe Wieskamp era back in 2018. Alumni and fans have rallied behind this team, drawing comparisons to that legendary 2017-18 squad that made it to state.
Since Wieskamp graduated, the Muskies have had six straight sub-.500 seasons. Muscatine lost six one- or two-possession games a year ago on its way to a 5-17 campaign. The Muskies have shown resilience this season, securing back-to-back close victories, including a 52-49 win against Pleasant Valley just before the winter break.
The next challenge for the Muskies is a matchup against winless Clinton on Friday, January 10th. With momentum and confidence on their side, the Muskies look ready to keep their historic run alive.
