February is the month of Black History Month. Below are black artists who have changed the world for the better forever with their talent.
Doechii:
Jaylah Ji’mya Hickmon, professionally known as Doechii, recently won best rap album, a much-deserved title, and has been nominated for 8 awards. Doechii started by uploading her music through YouTube and SoundCloud, which helped her develop her fame. Her talent and tireless efforts got her to where she is now.
Tyler the Creator:
Tyler Gregory Okonma, known as Tyler the Creator, has 17 awards for his exceptional talent and 37 nominations. In 2008, Tyler The Creator founded the hip-hop collective Odd Future. His music has changed lives for the better and will continue to alter the music community.
The Weeknd:
Abel Makkonen Tesfaye, known as the Weeknd, has won 176 awards and has been nominated for 513. His debut song, House of Balloons, came out in 2011 and made international headlines, making him one of the biggest names today.
Beyoncé:
Beyoncé Giselle Knowles, or Beyoncé/Queen Bee. Beyonce started her career with childhood friends in a group called Destiny’s Child (initially called Girl’s Tyme) in 1990. When people are told to think of a music artist, typically, people are saying Beyoncé. She is just her, and there’s no way to top that. She has won 735 awards and has accumulated 1,349 nominations over the years, becoming the person who has received the most Grammy awards and changed music forever.
Tyla:
Tyla Laura Seethal, known in the music industry, became famous when a video of a live performance of her 2023 single “Water” went viral on social media. She has won 24 awards and been nominated for 82.
Bruno Mars:
Peter Gene Hernandez, or as everyone knows, Bruno Mars. Bruno started his career at 4 years old, but his fame came to be in 2010. Bruno Mars has created music that will be referenced til the end of times; its upbeat and romantic connotations will have a place in the music industry forever.
SZA:
Solána Imani Rowe, known professionally as SZA, has heavily impacted music. Her career has led to her becoming the first female artist signed to Top Dawg Entertainment. SZA has won a total of 69 awards and has been nominated for 230. Her beautiful soul and music are truly surreal.
