Emma Steele: The Future ESPN Reporter

Emma Steele, Sophomore, is a part of the marching band here at MHS. She plays alto saxophone, and has since 5th grade, which has taught her a lot about leadership and patience.

Emma said, “You need to understand that people sometimes aren’t up to your level in knowledge yet, and adjust accordingly.”

She follows in the footsteps of her 2023 graduate brother, Brenden Steele, who also played in the marching band and is now going to the University of Iowa, where he still plays in the marching band.

Not only does she play music, Emma also absolutely loves listening to it. Some of her favorite artists are Taylor Swift, Morgan Wallen, Connor Smith, John Denver, and Jack Harlow. She likes a lot of varied artists and genres, but her favorite genre is country. Specifically, breakup country songs.

Emma wants to be a journalist when she’s older, which is why she’s decided to join Newspaper. She wants to go to the University of Tennessee once she graduates.

“Tennessee is my ‘favorite state I haven’t been to,’” she joked.

Reading has shaped her the most, specifically self-help books. They’ve helped her change her attitude on life and made her more open towards others, and herself.

Emma also loves sports. Maya Simpson, one of Emma’s close friends, said, “sports is all she talks about.”

Emma’s favorite sports are hockey and baseball.

Emmas graduate brother, Brenden Steele, who also played in the marching band and is now going to the University of Iowa, where he still plays in the marching band.

Her favorite hockey team is The Devils because “they’re good and she has a celebrity crush on Jack Hughes,” Maya said.

Her favorite baseball team is the Cardinals, because her whole family loves the Cardinals. She loves the history of the team and being able to talk about the team with her dad.

“I used to love the Cubs, but my entire family loves the Cardinals. So I had to change my favorite team so that I could talk about sports with my dad.”

Another one of Emma’s favorites is true crime. Specifically, her favorite show is 48 Hours, a popular true crime series.

“I’ve watched every episode of 48 hours. It’s the best show. Better than Dateline,” said Emma.

Mrs. Rauenbuehler, Journalism Adviser, described Emma, “She’s someone who has a lot of follow-through. Like you wouldn’t necessarily talk her into doing something she knew she wouldn’t be able to completely invest all her time into.”

One important thing to Emma is that she is always a very forgiving person and strives to always give second chances.

“I cannot hold a grudge for the life of me, I cannot stay mad at somebody, ‘cause it’s like, well what’s the point? It’s too much work,” said Emma.

The most important people to Emma are her parents.

Her father is important to her because, “he helps to remind me that life is life and just have fun with it. Not everything is so serious.” Her mother is a great source of inspiration to her because she is the “strongest and toughest person” she knows.

It’s clear that to Emma, family, and the right attitude matter most.
