On January 25th, 2024, Megan Thee Stallion dropped her most recent single titled “HISS”. There was a lot of media attention around the initial release. Most of this attention was centered around one specific lyric.
“These ___ don’t be mad at Megan, these ___ mad at Megan’s Law.”
Now for a quick history lesson; According to Megan’sLaw.com, “Megan’s Law is named after seven-year-old Megan Kanka, a New Jersey girl who was r*ped and killed by a known registered sex offender who had moved across the street from the family without their knowledge. In the wake of the tragedy, the Kankas sought to have local communities warned about sex offenders in the area. All states now have a form of Megan’s Law.”
Although the line was not a direct statement toward Nicki, she took it personally and created a whole diss track directed at Megan entitled “BigFoot”. Since Nicki’s baby daddy and brother are on the sex offender list, she took Megan’s lyrics as an attack on her family.
Megan ate “HISS” (meaning: back off) up. She delivered bar after bar.
Her beat is a diss on many people, not just Nicki. Others include Tory Lanez, Megan’s ex Pardi (as well as his new girl), and Drake.
Megan had lots of things she wanted to get off her chest and she did it in an attentive way. She delivered general statements including, “Ever since I claimed the summer, all you _____ want a season” along with direct statements like, “These ___ hate on BBLs and be walkin’ ’round with the same scars” which is allegedly directed at Drake. The flow and beat make this song very enjoyable to listen to.
The day after Megan’s release of “HISS”, Nicki immediately took to Instagram live and Twitter to show how upset she was. Going on tangents and tweeting her lyrics for her upcoming diss track. Fans of Megan and Nicki both saw this behavior as erratic, and even said it seemed like Nicki was on drugs. These fans are validating one of the points Megan made in her song “Gift And A Curse”, where she references drug usage.
Nicki’s song “BigFoot”, is one of the most unhinged and quickest clap backs of all time.
The song immediately took to charts, challenging “HISS”. It was not on the charts because it was a good song, but because people wanted to hear her comeback.
The title “BigFoot” is a double entendre. It’s a reference to Megan’s height and the fact that she got shot in the foot by Tory Lanez, which Nicki tries to argue she lied about even though there is hard evidence and Megan won the case against him. Every line in “BigFoot” is directed towards Megan, even though only a few lines are directed at Nicki in “HISS”.
Nicki takes lots of shots at Megan’s dead mother, Holly Thomas, stage name Holly-Wood, with the line, “Lyin’ on your dead mama” which fans are calling a “low-blow” and “tactless”.
Not only are her lyrics tactless and rushed, fans are saying her beat sounds AI generated, which would make sense due to its speedy clap-back.
Through social media, Megan Thee Stallion is seen as an unbothered queen. Which is proving she is above this situation and Nicki. Meanwhile, Nicki is going crazy online. People on Megan’s side are saying that Nicki’s butt is fake, she’s getting old, and she’s probably doing hard drugs. Even some of Nicki’s fans are questioning her behavior.
Overall, Megan’s song is notably better. The beat, lyrics, and flow are all produced with care and attention making it a more enjoyable listen, while “BigFoot” is choppy and seems rushed.
