Over winter break, I was able to watch every episode of the second season of Squid Games. I thoroughly enjoyed it. Here is a review of the season with MAJOR spoilers.
Episode one: 6/10
Episode one was a slow roller for me. I initially thought that the main character, Seong Gi-hun, would go into the games again right away. However, it was just background information to what was happening, and what his character did for the time that was missed.
I loved that we could see the salesman more in the first episode. His character needed to be developed more and it is my opinion that they did it perfectly while not doing too much.
The salesman dying by playing a game felt like a sweet revenge for me. But, I do wish I got to see his character a little more.
‘Jun-ho’, is the cop who got shot into the river by his brother, but luckily survived. He tries to find his brother and figure out what is happening and why he would want to control the games. I wish I saw more of their relationship in this season. knowing there will be another season, I am not very upset.
Episode two: 5/10
This episode was very similar to episode one and didn’t really do it for me.
However, Gi-hun gets a group together to fight the creators and workers of the island.
Episode three: 9/10
I loved this episode. There was so much happening, and I loved the characters introduced. Within this episode, Gi-hun returns to the island. Along with the excitement of the episode, the number of characters was decent, and I loved it!
It’s important to know that the show has the iconic game ¨Red Light, Green Light.¨ with that being said, Gi-Hun tries to get the rest of the players to believe he fits his character so well. The character, Thanos, sang “Dying First” which made me sad a little because I thought they could have made her a hilarious character, but I was not angry about it.
Episode four: 10/10
This episode gives us more insight into who the characters are. We also get a massive foreshadowing for what will happen with player” 001”, the frontman. I developed a conspiracy with him, and I believe his father was in the first season “001”. I do wish I knew so much more about that family dynamic because it is pretty psychotic.
‘Jun-hee’ is the pregnant character; I LOVED, she is so sweet, and I hope she survives because otherwise, I will boycott the whole show.
My favorite dynamics of this episode are (Least to most favorite)
Episode five: 10/10
The episode first starts with the second game ending, it lets people work together as a group and makes them closer. The middle of the episode is, moreover, arguments between people, leaving tensions to rise knowing that there are more games to be played. The end of the episode leaves off with a new game, Thanos dancing in the end made me laugh so much.
Episode six: 10/10
This is where Young-mi dies… it was a really good scene and very emotional.
Player 222 talking to the father of her child more made me happy.
Geum-Ja and her son! This scene starts at 8 minutes and 25 seconds, they get torn apart from each other and when they come back together, it is sure to break hearts. This scene made me CRY. This was the only scene that made me noticeably sad.
The cop (who is also the frontman’s brother) works hard to find Gi-hun
Episode seven: 7/10
This was good but the cliffhanger made me angry, I wish that I could have seen more. I believe that the character who went to the games to pay for his daughter’s medical bills is still alive, due to player 11, a sniper, sparing his life due to her having seen him and his daughter before.
Squid Games season 2 did not disappoint. I wholeheartedly recommend that anyone and everyone watch this.
