Everyone has some type of insecurity. Whether you don’t like your hair, the way you talk, or that you aren’t very good at math. Insecurities that haunt you are relatively normal, especially for teenagers.
The corporate world benefits from your insecurities because they profit from you. They want you to try the new makeup that makes your smile lines go away, or they want you to buy their gym membership to get skinnier. This is a tactic they have used for years. So much money is being wasted just because society gave you an escape and a safety cushion to get rid of insecurities that were never supposed to be forever. We can stop the insecurities on our own without the products; you aren’t doomed forever (Medium.com).
How the desire for social status fuels insecurity
Social status is a key benefit to humanity. Teenagers especially want to be the most popular and find that more attainable with the most expensive clothing or at least throwing money at what is supposedly “in.” You are spending money without good intentions. You are spending money on the brand new makeup brands and clothing because you want to be cool or trendy. This feeds into the years of profit that corporations have gained because of your insecurity. The reason why you want the expensive, new clothing is to have people comment and tell you they like your outfit, not because you like what you are wearing (Medium.com).

The toxicity of trying to “fix” insecurities
Skin bleaching is a culprit of the dangers of society. There are pills, creams, and soaps to help you make you a lighter shade. There have also been countless articles stating how bad it is for your skin. It can range from high blood pressure and fatigue to mercury poisoning, lifelong kidney and lung damage (walkindermatology.com). Waist trainers are another common money scheme that can be dangerous. They are all over the internet promoting them to everyone so they can have a flat stomach. They instruct you to wear waist trainers all the time and tighten them over time. Waist trainers make you sweat a lot, and you only lose water weight, which doesn’t help you lose fat. Your core muscles can shrink from lack of usage. Since your stomach is being squeezed, it’s going to make you want to eat even more. There are so many more side effects that are a danger to you. So what’s the point of them? Exactly, just another money-making tactic to get an excess amount of profit (healthline.com).

Just seeing these products on the internet makes more people insecure and want to buy, pointing out flaws and creating an insecurity they never even thought about. The cycle keeps repeating, but it doesn’t mean it can’t stop. If you want this to stop, stop promoting and buying products that are harmful to us. Insecurities come and go, but when insecurity arrives, here’s what to do.
Prove your insecurity to be a phony
If you are insecure about talking to new people, challenge yourself. Maybe you can tell someone who you think has a nice outfit a compliment. Small things can lead to bigger opportunities. You will slowly start to find confidence in small interactions so you can approach bigger situations. Remind yourself that insecurities are nothing but a negative idea of yourself (wondermind.com).
