The Rise of the Stanley Cup

What’s the big deal with it?

When you think “Stanley Cup” some may think of the trophy. However, the trophy has been demoted to number two, and the well-known cup has taken its spot. If you look around in all of your classes you will find more than one, it is almost a guarantee.

The Stanley Cup water bottle first became known by teenagers around the beginning of 2023, gaining popularity through TikTok. However, Muscatine has been late to the trend and has become popular as of summer 2023. Especially coming back to school from summer break, you see them everywhere.

Karen West, a Senior at MHS is known as the “water bottle friend” and always has cold water on hand. So like many others, she decided to hop on the trend and get a Stanley too.

Karen and her trusty Stanley

“I got it because I had just broken my other bottle and I wanted a pretty one plus I heard that they are really nice,” Karen said, “In my opinion, it is worth it. when I put ice in my cup it stays for a long time. It is a good water bottle and aesthetically pleasing. Although if you knock it over it spills sometimes and it is kind of hard to carry through the halls”

Unlike competing water bottles like Hydro Flask and Yeti, you can’t buy different lids. But on the original lid, you can slide the top over so you have a sip lid, perfect for coffee in the morning.

“I found this out after I bought it but you can switch the lid from being a straw lid to a ‘coffee’ lid,” Karen said, “It’s really cool and not something a lot of people talk about.”

“I was actually in a car with some of my friends and it fell out of the cup holder going around a curve then it spilled all over me and everywhere in the car and it was cold outside and my water was cold and I was freezing,” said Karen.

So what is the big deal about the Stanley Cup? It is seemingly indestructible with a lifetime warranty. It has been practically the most popular topic among teenagers in 2023 and is very aesthetic. The question of whether it is really worth it will come eventually when a new water bottle steps up and takes its place.
