This is Vanessa’s second year writing for The Auroran Today Newspaper. Last year was a new experience for her, transitioning from not feeling confident in her writing abilities to blooming into one of the more prominent writers affiliated with the MHS Auroran Today. Last year gave her somewhat of a “character development,” improving and challenging her writing ability.
This year she has taken on many roles, some of which are website designer and informational section editor. One of the reasons she chose to take on more responsibility is to improve the whole program. Along with aiming to make everything more cohesive, Vanessa has high expectations for her work ethic this year. To do this, she plans to be mature when dealing with her workload by completing her assignments on time.
Writing isn’t the only thing about her, though. When it comes to physical appearance, one of her favorite ways to enhance her look is lash extensions. It’s hard to miss her iconic style in the hallways. Her careful and cohesive presentation is the first thing I noticed about Vanessa. From story to style, she is constantly put together. Her most iconic beauty accessories are a set of long square-shaped French tip nails, lash extensions, and a blingy nose ring. One thing she wants to be remembered for is smelling good, and that can’t be done without having her Victoria’s Secret love spell lotion on the go.
Besides being interested in fashion and involved in writing, Vanessa has indulged in traveling and exploring other cultures. Going to Mexico is more of a familiar route for her, especially since she has been before and knows her way around. It’s also where her family is, and shares the traditions and language that she grew up around. In contrast, China was a unique opportunity for her to learn more about the culture behind the language class she was already taking. Going to a country so different was both a culture shock and an opportunity to learn.
Vanessa says, “It was a really cool experience to see how different it is over there, but also all the stuff we have in common,” as well as a mix of both a, “whole new environment and whole new people.”
She finds this calls for a fun time taking pictures, sightseeing, and memory-making.
From the ordinary eye, it’s hard to understand how she balances it all while still matching her uggs to her sweater. Although it’s hard to guess what people are like, Vanessa radiates the energy she wants to attract. One thing that most people don’t know about Vanessa is that one of her pet peeves is when disruptive people ruin her energy.
She says she dislikes it when “the environment in a classroom is all the same, then there’s just that one loud person”.
She reflects her want for a quiet workspace by being somewhat introverted herself. She is mindful of the spaces around her and is careful to not come off as someone who she’s not.
She says, “I don’t want to be seen as a loud person that’s always doing too much. I just want people to think and know that I am kind of a kept-together person, like I have my things straight and I know what I’m doing, even if I don’t.”
She chases what she attracts, and she stays consistent. She’s also had writing on her mind for a long time, too.
Going back to where she started, English class has always been a monumental part of her life, influencing her ideas for her future.
She says, “Writing in English has always been a huge thing to me ever since seventh grade.”
Other than writing for fun, she explains the other benefits by sharing, “It really helped me express myself in my writing, and overall get better.”
By improving her work and writing more, she was able to create some of her most cherished stories. Vanessa says some of her best works were her spotlight stories to showcase other interesting people.
“They were so much better than what I’ve done before. They were much more informative on the person and I feel like I did well with describing them.”
As a reader, it’s enjoyable to learn more about people, especially things about them you would never have guessed. Vanessa’s not the only writer people don’t know much about, so be sure to check out some other stories for the inside scoop on the writers of the Muskie Auroran Today!
